May 17, 2013, Royal Oak, MI – The Officers and Board of
Directors of Michigan Compassion are pleased to announce their successful
application to participate in the Southeastern Michigan Area Combined Federal
Campaign (CFC.) The CFC is the nation’s largest workplace charitable giving program
made-up of all State and federal agencies in a 9 county region including the
Metropolitan Detroit counties. Michigan Compassion is one of 2,500 other public
charities accepted to participate in the program in the Southeastern Michigan
Region but the first Medical Cannabis charity to be accepted in any of the 200 nationwide
regions.
According to Heidi Parikh, Executive Director of Michigan
Compassion, “this opportunity is entirely unique to the medical cannabis
movement throughout the entire country. Not only is this a coveted fundraising
opportunity for a young charity but Michigan Compassion is going to learn the
real pulse of the State and federal government on medical cannabis through
direct feedback and charitable giving by its employees.”
Employee participation in a CFC campaign is voluntary and
charities are selected for contributions based on individual preferences. The
2011 Southeastern Michigan CFC raised over $2.3 million. “This is also a great
opportunity to pursue our mission of education to a very large audience. I
think a lot of people will be interested in learning about Michigan
Compassion’s program,” Parikh said.
Michigan
Compassion is a 501(c)(3) exempt organization. Their mission is to increase
awareness and understanding through education, information and advocacy of all
the medical benefits and healing properties of Cannabis. They are the first
medical marijuana public charity in Michigan and only 1 of 4 in the United
States to have received federal exemption. Michigan Compassion’s main program
for 2013 is its Medical Cannabis Awareness project which includes a media
strategy, high profile educational symposiums, community outreach and education
programs, as well as its weekly public meetings which the organization has consistently
