Summer Activities in the Rocky Mountain High - by Citizen Jay

Before you know it this summer will be over.  With all of the hashy happenings going on it can be difficult to plan your weedy activities effectively.  So if you’re planning on coming out to the Mile HIGH State this summer for some good old fashioned American fun here are a few of the incredible events going on in the Centennial State.

Summer starts in full swing this July as The South Park Music Festival opens the month over the holiday weekend.  The festival spans three days from the 3rd to the 5th and offers beautiful camping, fireworks, and a huge music line up.  The event takes place on the 3,000 acre American Safari Ranch in Fair Play, Colorado.  Surrounded by beautiful snow-peaked Rocky Mountains year round, the ranch offers “the spirit of the Old West with the comfort of modern amenities.”  The festival is being hosted by my friend, Selecta Nikka T along with BURNTmd.  Music guests include Paper Diamond, Heroes X Villains, Carolyn Wonderland, and Fishbone on Thursday.  Friday, the 4th of July, is headlined by Slightly Stoopid and Matisyahu, with Steel Pulse and the Flobots.  Saturday’s highlights include TECH N9NE, Collie Buddz, and The Kottonmouth Kings.  Dozens of other bands flesh out the weekend’s musical retreat.

Here’s the kicker—being held simultaneously is the Underground Cup, a cannabis competition open to all growers in Colorado.  You can purchase a Judges Package for the event and REALLY get a taste of Colorado’s finest!  For more information on the Underground Cup go to www.theuc.us.

The following weekend the 710 Cup returns to Denver.  Touted as a music and dabs festival, the 710 Cup is put on by the folks over at Grassroots California.  Last year’s 710 Cup was packed with people and dabs from all over the country.  It’s a great way to get yourself involved in the dabbing community and make awesome new friends while you’re at it.  Thursday night will feature a bonus party with Rob Garza (of Thievery Corporation) performing along with Option 4.  Friday, July 11, 2014, Devin the Dude headlines with Rastasarus performing a special Bob Marley tribute set, and Fractal Sky.  Saturday evening the awards show will feature Slick Rick, GravityA doing a Talking Heads tribute set, and Fractal Sky.  For more information go to www.the710cup.com.

July is far from over!  The very next weekend, the boys over at Weed Pimp Nation are throwing another camping weed extravaganza.  It’s their 2nd Annual Rock the Canyon.  THIS IS A FREE EVENT! It will include three days of music, a magician, a DAB TENT, lots of art, a bouncy house for kids and a variety of other entertainment for you and you’re family to enjoy.  This one’s being held out on the plains just east of Colorado Springs.  For more information go to www.facebook.com/events/799278323431394/.

Next up on the big summer agenda is the Mack-Daddy of all outdoor weed festivals.  It’s the 31st Annual Colorado Invitational Bong-A-Thon.  That’s right, 31 years and going strong.  This one started out as more of an “insider’s party,” but these days everyone is invited.  The Bong-A-Thon includes a series of competitions, for example, to see who can smoke the fastest gram of flower (and this year dabs are going to be included as well).  The Biggest Bud at the Bong-a-Thon will receive a prize pack including a 31-arm perked bong from Kind Creations in Ft. Collins. More prizes in that pack too including grinder card, vape pen and a nug jar. There’s the best bong competition, and as always the main competition will be for the best camp site.  If you plan on this one, be sure to pack your back-country gear.  Or you can rent the camp set up if you’re coming to Colorado by plane (check out Outdoorgeeks.com for more details).  This is truly the Rocky Mountain High!  Special Golden VIP Tickets are available for $420.00 that include your own private port-o-let dropped off at your campsite with a pad lock for your use only along with all the beer, flower, and dabs you can handle.  The Bong-A-Thon runs from July 31 to August 3.  For more information go to: https://www.facebook.com/BATcolorado.

Finally, August brings the ARISE Festival to Loveland, Colorado from the 8th to the 10th.  ARISE is a conscious arts and music festival featuring Beats Antique, Galactic, The Infamous Stringdusters, Grateful Grass, The Polish Ambassador, Groundation, Tribal Seeds, Nahko and Medicine for the People, Quixotic and dozens of other live performing acts.  This is the 2nd year for the ARISE Music Festival, which touts itself as “part of a growing movement of arts and music festivals with a focus on conscious, healthful living.” The 3-day festival will feature multiple stages of music, daily yoga classes, a belly dancing series, activist-celebrity speakers and presenters as well as a wealth of educational workshops throughout the weekend. The ARISE Festival takes place on a 100-acre organic farm in Loveland, Colorado with an unrivaled landscape featuring sweeping red rock and mountain valley views. For more information regarding the ARISE Festival go to http://arisefestival.com.

So come on out to Colorado this summer and get the best of those M’s we all need—music, mountains, and marijuana.  See ya there!  And Keep on Tokin’!
