Cannibals of Freedom - by Daniel L. Price, Esq.

Feasting on Freedom by Creating Criminals

I wish to remind all concerned once again that a concerted effort has long been underway to undermine the Michigan Medical Marijuana Act (“MMMA”).  Unfortunately, it’s not just that medical marijuana patients and caregivers alike are being treated as less than human by our State’s law enforcement and prosecutors.  Nor is it just that the Michigan State Police (“MSP”) Crime Labs are being apparently ordered to falsify drug test results.  Nor is it simply that the Michigan legislature enacted a law which allows police to force you to take a saliva test, simply because you hold a LARA Card.  To be sure, police and narcotics units have actually been creating criminal activity where none exists.

A case out of Oakland County, MI (People v. Carruthers), a couple years ago is a good example of how this is happening.  The case was a medical marijuana case in which law enforcement forged a LARA CARD, driver’s license, and even a check they stated was written to LARA to show they had obtained all their documents legally.  In that case, the dispensary even required patients to sign a membership agreement saying they promised to comply with the act and certifying they were a patient with valid documents.  Law enforcement forged documents solely in order to purchase medical marijuana and “create” a crime where none had existed.

Still, that case, and presumably many, many others, were created by government actors in order to violate the freedoms of those who they do not like, namely, medical marijuana patients.  Further, even if every case of this kind is ultimately dismissed, it wreaks havoc on patients.  They are still subject to losing their homes, automobiles, cash, and other property.  Moreover, the legal fees for a patient or caregiver to defend an action like this can easily exceed $10,000.00 to $50,000.00, depending on the individual case.  Unfortunately, unlike government actors, patients and caregivers cannot simply force the public to pay for their defense.  At the same time, government actors can simply force the public to pay higher taxes to fund their creating criminals and then prosecuting those otherwise law abiding citizens.

I ask of you: Is this in your interest?;  Is this for your safety?;  Is this for your good?;  Does this increase your happiness and welfare?  If you answered no to any one of these questions, you have recognized that we have a problem in Michigan with government actors cannibalizing our freedoms.  This type of government activity is yet another example of government actors who suffer from PASY (Parasitic Anthropophagy Syndrome), and who make and enforce laws based upon their personal biases and prejudices, rather than the ideals of freedom upon which our great country was formed.  But how can this problem be solved?

As always, VOTE!  But more importantly, your vote cannot be for legislators, judges, police chiefs and sheriffs who promise to give you something at the expense of others.  The vote must be for those who promise to defend your freedom, no matter who you are, or what your beliefs.  This is the cure for PASY.   In fact, this is the only cure for PASY.

However, if we voters here in Michigan continue to vote for those afflicted with PASY, it is us who are to blame for the insanity of government actors who fraudulently make us criminals in order to both gain financially by using forfeiture, and to continue their biases and bigotry.  In regard to freedom, nothing has changed, freedom is not free.  One must think, speak, and act to defend one’s freedom.  Remember, the denial of your freedom takes no action, you need only keep silent and do nothing while you are made a criminal, or keep voting for those who promise to deny you your freedom.

As always, till next month, keep rolling on.
